Good to know

Four bedroom farmhouse over 2 levels. Two bedrooms downstairs- one with ensuite shower room, the other with 2x single beds. Upstairs- two further bedrooms and one bathroom, additional downstairs shower room also. Three living rooms and dining kitchen. Large garden including two ponds, wood fired hot tub, fields and blueberry orchard.

Other Details to Note

We have a movie projector in the main living room, and we have Sonos speakers plus a turntable for listening to records. The nearest town is Kirriemuir- about 10 minutes away by car. Firewood is available in our garage for the hot tub and stove, and we supply all towels and bedding. The rear garden area has a gate to keep pets in. There is a kids climbing frame in one of the fields. The hot tub is wood fired which means we don't need to use any chemicals. We empty and clean it after every stay. Due to the nature of a wood fired hot tub and the farm's location we can't prefill it with water in case it freezes, and we can't pre-light it for arrival as we can't leave an unattended fire. The tub takes about 30 minutes to fill and 3-5 hours to heat up using about 20 logs. The hotter a fire you can acheive the quicker it heats up. In winter it gets extremely dark at Hillockbrae but there is a torch inside the house and solar lights externally- these are at the mercy of the sun shining. We suggest you stock up on logs prior to it getting too dark outside.

We stayed with our little kids and they loved it. The projector room and huge couches a massive hit. We were able to be in the kitchen cooking with them next door. Our baby monitors also stretched to each of the bedrooms…just. Being January, we didn’t quite make the use of the garden and hot tub as we might have liked. Beds all really comfy and kitchen very well equipped. The usual puzzle of trying to operate an unfamiliar induction hob, but all good otherwise.

Very beautiful location and interior. Loved the art and great record collection. The beds were very comfortable, the house was cosy and relaxed whilst being really well fitted out and lovely. We loved the peace, the hot tub, the sun room with log burning stove, the huge couches and the space (we were a family of 8). Had a wonderful stay and would definitely love to return.

This a a stand out property because the location is beautiful, the peace and tranquillity made it really special. The dark skies meant we were able to star gaze and by day we enjoyed a bit of bird spotting. We loved the feel of the property, homely but carefully curated to make each space feel cosy and premium. The bathing facilities are the best we have yet experienced anywhere. We came to tour around but didn't want to go out! This is a great place to spend quality time with loved ones. Thanks Matt, we would all happily return and recommend Hillockbrae without reservation. It exceeded our expectations...you really have thought of everything.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour chez Matt dans sa ferme ancienne soigneusement rénovée avec beaucoup de goût. Le logement est chaleureux, spacieux, fonctionnel, très bien équipé et très propre, avec une belle décoration. Le jardon est très agréable également, le hot tub est un vrai plus si vous aimez. L'environnement est calme et bucolique. Nous recommandons sans réserve!

We absolutely loved our stay at Hillockbrae Farm. The house is spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable, charming, and well appointed. We had everything we needed for a three night stay. The grounds are also gorgeous. We loved the hot tub and strolling down the lane in the mornings, taking in the view. Matt was great to communicate with and check in was a breeze. I would highly recommend this AirBnb to anyone!

This place was amazing . I’m so glad we found it. Just as described and looks exactly like the pictured. Immaculate and so well equipped with so many extras too like bits in the kitchen, and games for adults and kids, blankets, torches, binoculars. The list goes on. Matt was very helpful when I had any questions and gave very clear instructions relevant for our stay. The welcome basket is so thoughtful too. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again

We spent a wonderful weekend at Matt’s place celebrating my father’s 78th birthday. The space was perfect for our family (5 adults + 2 kids) and appreciated all the difference living spaces. We were lucky to have very warm weather and enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the peaceful views and also loved the hot tub. Beds were very comfortable, house was very clean and instructions clear. Couldn’t ask for better!
